The University Grants Commission (UGC) established in Nov.1956. To monitor standards of the higher educational institutions the UGC has established the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) as an autonomous body. NAAC has been instilling a momentum of quality consciousness amongst Higher educational institutions, aiming for continuous improvement. However, lating improvements in standards cannot come about only by accreditation from outside, once in five Year. An internal mechanism for sustenance, assurance and enhancement of the quality culture of education imparted by them.


  • Ensuring timely, efficient and progressive performance of academic, administrative and financial tasks
  • The relevance and quality of academic and research programmes
  • Equitable access to and affordability of academic programmes for various sections of society
  • Optimization and integration of modern methods of teaching and learning
  • The credibility of evaluation procedures
  • Ensuring the adequacy, maintenance and functioning of the support structure and services

Extra Curricular activities


The College Union is an elected body of students of the college for the promotion of the practice of democracy and leadership qualities among the students of the college. The College Union consists of Chairman, Vice Chairman, General Secretary, Joint Secretary, Fine Arts Secretary, Magazine Editor, General Captain and University Union Councillor elected by the students for each academic year. The Union functions under the guidance of a Staff Advisor appointed by the Principal.


While NCC is a tri-service organisation including Army, Navy and Air force, Carmel College NCC sub unit comprises of the Army wing. With an enrolled strength of 160 cadets, ever since its establishment in the college in 1981, this sub unit has always been one of the largest and most active subunits of the 7 Kerala girls battalion NCC. Our NCC cadets have participated in the Republic Day parade in New Delhi and in various National and Regional camps. The cadets also have secured the best cadets award.


We have two NSS units comprising of hundred students in each unit. This bears witness to the sense of commitment that the students have towards the society. The NSS units of our college conduct regular and special camps, awareness classes, surveys & various other programmes for the volunteers and the society at large.


The Calicut University has initiated Compulsory Social Service for students at Degree level, which makes the students aware of thier duties and responsiblities to the society. The programme under CSS will be distributed during the entire period of course, normally 10 days in each academic year, and shall not exceed 30 days in the entire period of study.


We have a very enthusiastic and active AICUF unit functioning in our college from the year 1981 onwards. AICUF promotes spiritual insights among the students through various seminars, Bible study classes and talks by eminent resource persons, annual retreats, weekly prayer meetings, daily rosary, Holy mass and confession on first fridays. Colourful Christmas celebrations with Christmas message, gift exchange, and carol form part of its activities. AICUF members are also very active in visiting the sick and suffering. They collect money, food items, clothes, medicines etc for the inmates of orphanages, old age homes, prisons, leprosy hospitals, physically and mentally challenged and celebrate Onam, Christmas and other festive occasions with them.


Jesus Youth is a youth initiative rooted in charistmatic spirituality. It is a Catholic missionary movement spread out in various countries of the world, started in Kerala and with a strong presence in India and abroad. Jesus youth is a life style of youth in this fast paced world. These young people have a deep encounter with Jesus as a friend, guide & saviour. In our college, the unit started in 1998 and organise regular prayer meetings. The members also attend various programmes conduted by the Jesus Youth Campus Ministry. Every year, the members celebrate “Good News Day” and Bible fest in the campus.


The college has a good cultural centre to train and practise where the students are encouraged to perform their talents in the field of fine arts. The activiites begin with the Freshers Day. Inter Departmental competitions will be periodically organised to promote the spirit of Competition and healthy rivalry. Studens are also inspired te participate in D-Zone & Inter zone of the University Arts Festival,


There is an active women’s cell functioning in the college with a Tailoring centre-where hand and machine embroidary and making of fancy items and toys are taught, Type writing and Shorthand centre approved by the government. Besides, we have candle making and book binding unit. Circulation of library books among the rural women is done at the documentation centre of the cell. it conducts awareness programmes related to women such as women empowerment, women’s rights etc.


A sound mind rests in a sound body’, imbiling this great truth, students have been encouraged to take part in sports and games. The sports students are given training in the following events. Cricket Ball Badminton Hockey Cycling Shuttle Badminton Athletics Archery Football Yoga Chess The students have brought laurels to the college by winning several prizes in National, State, University and District level competitions


The cell functions with a view to help students choose an appropriate career in future. Students are given encouragement and information for participation in placement drives by Wipro, Infosys, Tech Mahindra, HCL. etc.
