General Rules

Education in its true sense should comprise besides the acquisition of knowledge, the formation of an ideal character by bringing body, mind and heart under discipline and by developing everything that is good and beautiful in human nature. Hence it should be the earnest endeavour of every student. She should be gentle and refined in behaviour, polite and courteous in manners and modest in dress and comportment.

  • Rules of modesty and decorum in dress should be strictly adhered to. A simple chain, a pair of earrings and a wrist watch may be worn. The students shall wear uniforms according to the directions given by the college authorities.
  • College properties and furniture shall be handled with great care. Any loss or destruction to these will be chargeable individually or collectively as the case may be.
  • Students shall endeavour to preserve cleanliness and orderliness in the class rooms, verandahs and college premises. Dislocating chairs and other furniture, dirtying the surrroundings by throwing bits of paper, and sprinkling ink on the floor, walls and furniture are not in keeping with the high sense of order and cleanliness expected of a lady.
  • Books, stationary and umbrella should bear the name of owner. The college will not be responsible for any loss of money or article incurred by the students through their carelessness. They are like wise forbidden to borrow or lend money or article.
  • No Magazine, newspaper, Mobile phone or Walkman is allowed to be brought to the college or hostel without the permission of the principal.
  • Strict silence should be observed at all times in the reading room and Library and in the class rooms during class hours.
  • Attendance and active participation in all activities organised by the college is compulsory. 8. No student should be seen in the verandah during the class hours.
  • Irregular attendance, insubordination to lectures, habitual inattention to class work, obscenity in word or deed are sufficient reasons for the permanent or temporary dismissal of student. Minor offences are punishable by fines, loss of attendance etc.
  • No subscriptions of any kind are allowed without the previous permission of the principal.
  • Official Letters addressed to college authorities should enclose reply postage.
  • Students are not allowed to make complaints in a body or present any collective petition.
  • No notice should be pasted on the notice board without the permission of the principal.
  • Students should read the notice put up on the notice-board carefully every day in the morning when they come and in the evening when they leave.
  • The college does not charge any capitation fees nor does it accept any donation as a consideration for admission /appointment.
  • Loss of working days due to unforeseen circumstances will be made up by extra Saturdays.
  • Use of Mobile Phones and Ragging are strictly prohibited in this institution as per G.O. Rt. No.346/05 dated 01.03.05 and Kerala Ragging Prohibition Act 1998 respectively. Ragging, even of any simple nature is punishable.
  • Students are expected to possess their college ID Card in the campus and to produce the same whenever and wherever asked by the authorities.
  • Generally, no certificate will be issued in less than 48 hours notice.
  • Fees once paid are not refundable.
  • The working day is divided in to two sessions and each session into periods of one hour.
  • The first bell for class is given 10 minutes before the commencement of the morning and afternoon session and the second bell at the hour fixed for the commencement of the class.
  • At the first bell for the morning session, all students shall go to their classes for morning prayer.
  • Late comers should enter the class with the permission of the Professor or Lecturer in charge of that class.
  • Daily Attendance will be taken.
  • No student is allowed to leave class room without the permission of the lecturer in charge or until the class is dismissed.
  • If a student wants to leave the college during class hours either the parent or guardian should come and get the permission from the Principal.
  • Office provides leave books on payment of Rs. 5/-Application for leave must be recommended by the tutor - in charge. In case of unforeseen circumstances application for leave must be submitted on the Very First Day of the students’ return to the college.
  • The students who absent herself for a day without leave loses two days attendance. Absence without leave will be penalised at the discretion of the Principal.
  • Absence without leave from examination and on the day of the reopening of the classes after holidays will be dealt with seriously. In case of illness, a Medical certificate should be produced. No re-examination will be conducted for the students who are absent during class tests and terminal examinations. Absenting students will lose the marks allotted for the particular exam. Their performance in other tests and examination will be the basis for their promotion or failure.
  • A student requiring leave only for the particular hour may be granted such leave by the lecturer in charge.
  • Those who absent themselves without leave or those whose application for leave has not been sanctioned for any reason will have to pay a fine of Rs.1.00 per day. The fines should be paid along with the leave slip.
  • All catholic students shall be required to attend the religious instruction at the appointed hours.
  • All other students shall attend lectures on Ethics according to the timetable.
  • Rules regarding attendance and leave for both these classes are the same as for ordinary college lectures.
  • The necessary information about scholarships can be had from the college office.
  • No student will be awarded more than one Scholarship, College Scholarship and concession.
  • A few poor students are given free Education and noon meal by the management.

Other Scholarships

The majority of students at Carmel college receive some measure of financial aid during their career. The amount of support each student receives depends in part upon need; in part upon evidence of intellectual promises or achievements and in part of course, upon the availability of funds. Support range from grants covering tuition charges to awards, sufficient to pay all academic and living expenses.


Students belonging to Scheduled Castes & Scheduled Tribes are eligible for full fee concession and stipend provided they apply for the same in time. Application forms are available from the office. Besides, mess charge of S.C & S.T Students will be met by the government.

OEC students - Christan converts from S.C. and Kudumbies - enjoy the same privileges as SC/ST students.

Students of forward communities are eligible for full fee concession provided their income falls below the income limit.

Students belonging OBC are eligible for full fee concession, if their income fall under above limits.

Fee concession to students, whose parents are physically handicapped are eligible for tuition fee & special fee concessions from social welfare department. The income limit is Rs. 12,000/- per annum. The income certificate obtained from the village officers is a requisite to enjoy the above concession. It will have to be presented at the time of admission.


Assistance from the college student’s aid fund is also available to those students whose family income is less than Rs. 1,200/- per annum. They shall apply before September.


There is an efficient tutorial system in the college with 20 students being guided by the concerned teacher. Each student is provided personal attention and advice. Through efficient counselling and constant support of the tutors, the teacher- student relationship has become much satisfactory.

Ragging Free Campus

Ragging is strictly prohibited in the college campus

Ragging means doing of any act, by disorderly conduct, to a student of an educational institution which causes or likely to cause physical or physiological harm or raising apprehension or fear or shame or embarrassment to that student and includes:

1. Teasing, abusing or playing practical jokes on, or hurting, student; or

2. Asking a student to do any act or perform something which such student will not, in the ordinary course, willingly do.

If any incident of ragging comes to the notice of the authority, strict actions will be taken against that student immediately.

As a measure for preventing the menace of ragging in the college campus, and as per the directions of the Honourable Supreme Court, UGC., University and Government, an Anti Ragging Squad has been constituted consisting of the following members.
