HISTORY


The history of the Department of Botany dates back to 1981, the very year in which the college started functioning. B.Sc Degree Botany course was started in 1993 and M.Sc Degree course introduced in 2013. Calicut University recognized this department as Research Centre in 2018. Department aims to form citizens who are globally competent in Plant Science and equips students to meet the challenging trends in the field of Botany. The department provides a well equipped laboratory to cater the requirements of both degree and PG students and research scholars. The Department offers two Career Oriented Courses in Plant Tissue Culture and Bioinformatics. Research projects are being handled by the faculty to pursue excellence in Plant Biology research. The thrust areas of research include Phytochemistry, Plant Tissue Culture, Environmental Science, Phycology, Taxonomy and Molecular Systematics.

Empower women especially rural women so as to make her aware of the endless glory of nature and mould her to lead an eco-friendly, scientific and motivated life and thereby set aglow the world with light and love for nature

MISSION


We dedicate ourselves to promote excellence in education, to evolve scientific solutions to complex human problems and ignite young minds to keep abreast with the latest developments in Biology, for generating new knowledge about the natural world through observation.

This is an association formed by the students who have passed out from the Department. Any student passing out from the department becomes a member of this association by registering at the college office. Members of our Departmental Alumni Association organize annual gatherings and other programme. The Alumni association functions to coordinate community service activities and other useful activities to our department. Alumni encourage students especially to consider their institution as the provider of higher education. They are in close contact with our department.
