ONE WORLD: MANY STORIES -National Reading Month Celebrations 19th June-18th July 2023 by the Department of English

The National Education Policy 2020 has emphasized reading as a key skill for foundational learning. The critical role played by public/schools/colleges/digital libraries towards this end is also highlighted. P.N. Panicker pioneered the establishment of the first Library in Kerala, and this marked the advent of the literacy movement in India. Honouring the father of the Library Movement, P.N. Panicker, 19th June is being celebrated as the Reading Day and the following week as the Reading Week and the entire month till 18th July is observed as the Reading Month. Started as a Reading Day Celebration in 19th June 1996, it has become a mass movement to promote the culture of reading.  “One World: Many Stories” – the Reading Month celebrations of the Department of English – include a variety of activities scheduled from 19th June to 18th July 2023.
