UNNAT BHARAT ABHIYAN

As a part of community development, our NSS unit had adopted the rural villages of nearby area such as Kavanad, Puliyilakunnu, Neuthakudi and Snehagiri. To uplift these areas, NSS volunteers are giving free tuition to the poor students of these areas. They promote Swatchta Bharath Mission to ensure environmental cleanliness and have cleaned these villages. NSS unit of college helped the women in forming kudumbasree units and taught them craft making in these adopted villages.

EXTENSION ACTIVITIES

As a part of empowering, encouraging and enlightening the women folk of our college and of our society, and to impart as well as to cultivate a self reliant mode of life style, our college provides various facilitates to acquire and learn different handy-crafts.

General Tailoring

From the beginning onwards, the students and women folk of our area are attracted to study tailoring. Early morning and late evening, they came and started to learn the tailoring in general. Most of them took it serious and began to acquire the stitches and learned to a variety of dressmaking systems. The girls, especially drop-out girls, also got admission since these is no basic qualification. Within 6 months, girls acquired the techniques in excellence in the Career. They got interest and made it as an earning device.

Embroidery

The Management started an Embroidery Coaching Cell in the college in response to the request from the students, who are learning tailoring methods. The college started giving them coaching on embroidery devices too. So, most of the general tailoring students was able to acquire the Embroidery Skills also to turn themselves in to a self- employed woman.

Handicrafts

Women who would like to polish their artistic talents and to enhance their creative skills, Carmel College is providing an opportunity to them to excel in their artistic and creative skills and also to make an earning from the same, where handicraft classes for women will get coaching on how to make different types of handicrafts like Glass-painting, Flower making, Making of Soft toys etc. Modern girls are very interested in these type of handicrafts. All the materials for each of these types could buy as kits from shops. The learners, with the help of teacher, easily reassemble the packs or paint or make and complete the work. Within a short period, the interested student may achieve excellence in the working system.

Book-Binding (Common), Spiral Binding and Note Book Making

Carmel College’s small venture like Book-Binding (Common), Spiral Binding and Note Book Making aid the ladies from our area by providing them with employment opportunities to work in this sector. Many married ladies are working here and actively run this making it successful. Nearly 20000 books are making within a year. The initial and incidental expenses are met by the Management. When the note-books are sold the ladies will get wages and they are running their family to an extent with the help of this small venture.

Free Tuition

At the time of vacation, our students take initiative to give free tuition on various subjects to the students of nearby area. Free English Language coaching given by our students help the students of under-resourced schools to get training in the subject English and to improve the communication skills of them in English.
